How to balance your school life with an internship that you love
Balancing school, social life and sleep is already a challenging task to master, now try to do all of that and add up an internship. Internships are a fun experience but require a lot of work, if you mix that, with school and other responsibilities, you might start to feel flooded with tasks. There is not a specific way to balance everything in your life, but there are some things that make it run smoothly. Here I leave you with some tips that have helped me figure it out.
Organize yourself - Organizing your time, responsibilities and your thoughts are a crucial part of finding the balance. This means to gather everything that needs to be done, prioritize it and execute it. For me, having an agenda and writing to-do list works perfectly to increase efficiency.
Divide your time - Know how much time it will take you to accomplish a task and give yourself enough time to complete it. I like to start my projects and assignments early, even though I sometimes end up doing them the night before I really try not to. Also, remember to leave time for a social life. It’s good and needed for your soul and overall well- being.
Set your goals - Setting goals for the things you want to achieve will keep you motivated. They will help create a space for development and growth.
Have fun- You’re there to work and to gain experience, but also to make relationships and have a great time.
With all of that mentioned, it’s important to have your priorities straight. In the end, school is first, and your internship supervisor will understand that. If you have an important thing due that week for class, let them know. Be sure to update them on how you are doing in school because they care about you. Also, remember that you are at your internship to work and that they chose you for the position, so be sure to contribute.
While you might feel like it is a lot, in the end, you’ll be able to find the balance and truly enjoy the experience. This is a big opportunity for growth so make sure to give your best.
