7 useful recommendations on how to choose your life path given by a 17-year-old
So, you might be thinking I’m here to tell you how to choose a career path, help you respond to the cliche questions “ What are you doing after you graduate? What is your passion?. In reality, I don’t have any of those answers, you do, but I’m hoping I help you find them in this article. I know coming up with a solution can be stressful and overwhelming. It may seem like simple questions to respond, but it's hard to answer when usually we are expected to act upon it.
Time is mainly the center of our lives, and everything revolves around it; therefore we often feel like there is not enough. You want to make the right choices, but you’re afraid about wasting the future and not making a good choice. The truth is there’s a possibility of pursuing something that might not be worth your time and energy, but there are ways to get you pointed in the right direction.
I’ve collected some of the things that helped me decide on what future I wanted, and I’ll share them with you. Here are my recommendations on heading in the direction of your dreams.
What do you hate?
Using the process of elimination and discarding what you wouldn’t want to be doing in the future is an excellent way to determine what is it that you like. If you are not sure and worried that you’ll waste your time, then set up specific time frames to explore and get new experiences.
Authenticity is important. Learn how to walk your own path
Some people aren't meant to be doctors or the CEO of their own company. Some people are more comfortable with being in smaller positions. Be authentic with yourself and don't get carried away with what society or your parents say you have to be. It's usual to let the sound from outside get into you but don't let it and be true to yourself.
Have a talk with those you look up to
Find a way to talk with people that are doing what you want to do, and you’ll start to see what it's really like. Sometimes you visualize it, and it's very different from the reality. In those conversations, it's possible you find out you don't want to pursue that path but don't take any decisions until you've asked the right questions.
Think
Take time for yourself and get rid of all distractions to focus on your thoughts. Believe me, when I started listening to myself I found my answers. Thoughts are powerful, and you don't have to pay attention to all of them but learn which ones are important. They will take you where you are supposed to.
Fear is your friend
If you're thinking of pursuing something that doesn't terrify you it's not deserving of your time. The more you feel scared, and the more you question yourself, the more possible you're on the correct track. You don't need to overcome fear because it will fuel you. Being inside your comfort zone will feel good for a while, but in the long run, regret might come for you.
Take Action
Go for it because at the end most people will end up in regret, but few will use fear to their advantage.
