Top 5 ways to boost your productivity while in high school

We all know high school is a period of many changes and if you are like me... being productive is something you struggle with; more responsibilities mean less time and it's hard to find a balance. Sometimes… we don't even have that many tasks to do, but we struggle to get them completed. We say we're too busy and that there's no time when in reality, we have as many hours in our day as Beyonce.

The solution involves many adjustments, but first, we have to eliminate the bullshit or at least own up to it. But also, not be so hard on yourself; we all have those days and complaining will only make things worse, instead, try looking at the reasons why you're not doing what you need to do. Don't afford to be complacent and whatever it is.. get to it. Turns out that only 41% of the items on a to-do list ever get done and this leads to stress and insomnia because uncompleted tasks stay on your mind until you finish them. I recommend you schedule everything on your calendar to make sure a specific time is set to do the job that has been on your mind for longer than it should.

As a high school student, you sure have fewer hours to focus on what you want.- Study from 8 to 3 and then comes all the after school activities to later arrive home to do some homework or learn for a test, overwhelming, isn't it? - The key to focusing is having priorities and letting your mind rest when it needs to. Below are some of the things that helped me be more productive and overall get better outcomes.

Prioritize. Identify the "Most Important Task" of the day and focus on finishing it (no interruptions). If there's anything that can be done in a small amount of time, then touch it only once to avoid having it in the back of your mind.

Be organized. Write everything down, whether it is on your agenda or an app. It'll help you stay ahead and on top of things. If you can, get the work done as soon as possible to avoid cramming or start it in case of any future changes you could possibly want to make.

Do your very best. Remember that learning is a privilege that not all get to enjoy, so make the most out of it. Commit, and you'll avoid self-judgment. Talk to your teacher and if you don't understand something, ask lots of questions. Put in effort in those times when you feel like "it's whatever"… believe me .. you'll thank yourself later. I did.

Don't trust your future self. It's no news that most of the time when we say "I'll do it tomorrow" we don't end up doing it. It happens to all of us because in certain aspects our future self can't be trusted. Figure out the ways you'll self-sabotage and think of ways to make sure it doesn't happen.

Be mindful. I always mention this, and it's because when you're aware of yourself and your surroundings, you appreciate the pleasures in life. In school, it helps you become fully engaged in activities and lowers stress.
