You can't pour from an empty cup: tips on getting in the right headspace
I've been away…. and I'd like for you to get something out of the article, so instead of making it my redemption, I'll share my lessons about the time I was gone. I've found dozens of articles on how to be productive, but I haven't seen many about what goes behind the curtains in moments of struggle. I hope having me share my process, gives you some type of guidance in yours.
This might seem like nonsense to you but as a Libra, I worry deeply about others opinions; good or bad, I've always tried to listen to what others have to say. That is not necessarily healthy, but their observations make us grow, of course, if we take them with a grain of salt. After a while, I started to listen to my opinion about myself. I tried to look for the root of my lack of devotion, on and off discipline and sometimes momentary good outbursts of productivity. So in order for me to be consistent, I needed to dig within to remember my purpose. I wanted to make sure that my reasons were right because intention matters to me. It fulfills me, beyond any great reward, to know that my mind and heart are in the right place.
My journey with productivity has been long, and it's not over yet, but now I'm going to share a more humanly part of creating a habit. The do’s and don'ts according to my experiences and the process of it all. I believe we build long-lasting relationships through connections and well… relatability.
Now onto the learnings:
Being vulnerable is hard, and many fear it but if we can't be honest with ourselves first, how can we be with others? You can't give from an empty cup, and oftentimes we get caught up in the idea of living an extraordinary and movie-like life when in reality we set expectations we can't fulfill. By freeing ourselves from that idea, we can truly accomplish what we want and let go of the stress and anxiety of trying to prove ourselves and our worthiness. I too have been there, and I know how nerve-wracking and unsettling it is to see that hustle culture everywhere while you are trying to find the will to wake up or put those running shoes.
We're all different and no method really applies to everybody. Start with being in the right mindset and acknowledge those moments of struggle, use them to grow, you have to understand what moves you, what makes you happy and sad. Going deeper into ourselves makes a significant change when trying to live a wholesome life. I'm not saying it's easy but it'll be worth the find. Do it at your own pace and don't hurry to get from point A to point B, because nobody’s process is the same and there's no rule book.
Listen to advice but also be guided by your heart and by your own conclusions. It's important to trust yourself, trust your thoughts, and be a critic of the information you hear. Take distance from the voices that don't let you think for yourself and reflect on what's truly within. So after thinking about it, I listed 5 things I've learned about getting in the right headspace; here I leave them to you.
1. .Discipline comes from routines that form habits. Things are harder at the start, but as you move deeper into the process, that "thing" you once called unknown, becomes part of your daily life. The more consistent, the more you'll be able to enjoy the rewards of your dedication.
2. Sustainable rhythms lead to success. The more we do something, the better we get at it. If you struggle with consistency, ask yourself what brings the feeling of avoidance when you are trying to commit. Oftentimes, we doubt the expected results and of our capabilities.
3. Delayed gratification. We often want fast results in a world where dedication and patience are needed. Working hard now, pays off later and most goals we want to achieve, take time to flourish.
4. Something just clicks. One day it just clicks. We don't see it at the moment but looking back, you notice the things that brought you to that instant. You leave the excuses behind and there's no more distraction with the "grass is greener" mentality and no more having great ideas with poor execution.
5. Look within. Let your inner compass lead you into the future. Listen to your thoughts and emotions, they reveal a lot about yourself. Trust your instincts and do what feels right, that'll be your next step forward.
Learn where to look in this overwhelming world, and don't forget the process should be the enjoyable part. I hope you enjoyed this article and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it !! Comment down below or send me an email to letshabitblog@gmail.com, I'll make sure to check them out.
